The Story of The Royal Mail Hotel

Please download Java(tm).

Established in 1899 the Royal Mail Hotel has seen well over 100 years of changes.

It was the first permanent building in the town and the first to be powered by that fandangle electricity. Today you can still imagine it in days of old with its beautiful and ornate pressed tin and the spectacular leadlight skylight in the common room upstairs.

Over the years the Royal Mail has played host to many a decadent person such as Sir Newton Moore, who stayed here during the opening of the railway in 1910 and later celebrated with a banquet at the Royal Mail Hotel. Lord Forrest has also graced the Royal Mail before commencing his expeditions afar.

In 1998 the Royal Mail underwent an extensive refurbishment, it still has the original bar floor in which a glass window was placed to show the old cellar, where the kegs were rolled down by the cellarmen to keep them cool.

The main bar is adorned with numerous photos and memorabilia dating back through the towns gold rushes in the 20th century, so please take time to have a look and imagine how it was back then.

In 2008 the Mail was purchased by husband and wife team, Phil and Gitte . And it is under the compentent management of Aimee Fishwick.
